ARE TUNGSTEN RINGS MADE OF COBALT?
No! Only the highest quality nickel is used as a binding agent in all rings and men’s wedding bands. Carbide jewellery is cobalt-free.
WHY GO FOR COBALT-FREE RINGS MADE OF TUNGSTEN?
Low quality tungsten rings use cobalt as an alternative binder but are susceptible to corrosion, cracking, marring or scratching. TUNGSTEN bands which include cobalt may possibly also cause skin rashes and/or itchiness. NEVER purchase a tungsten ring that contains cobalt.
WHY GO FOR COBALT-FREE RINGS MADE OF TUNGSTEN?
Caring for jewellery made of tungsten is simple requring a LITTLE preventative maintenance in order to keep the item in perfect condition, perhaps a quick check-up every 1-2 months, as follows:
To clean, use Jewellery Connection liquid cleaner. Simply drop the ring into the solution, give a shake for 1-2 minutes and rinse in luke warm water. If necessary use an old toothbrush to clean the grooves.
WHY GO FOR COBALT-FREE RINGS MADE OF TUNGSTEN?
Yes, by following these steps:
Using vice-grip pliers, clamp them loosely onto the ring. Remove the pliers then 1/4 turn tighten the pliers. Clamp on the ring again. Continue in this way until a crack is heard. At that point, remove the vice-grip pliers and place it on another spot on the ring. Repeat this step until the material breaks away., taking care not to rotate or slide the cracked ring on your finger. Should your ring have a gold inlay, such inlay can be clipped away in the normal fashion.
WHY GO FOR COBALT-FREE RINGS MADE OF TUNGSTEN?
Yes, there IS a big difference. Pure tungsten rings are very soft and can be scratched or bent and may damage easily, whereas Tungsten Carbide is one of the most durable metals with which jewellery can be made. It is scratch-resistant and will NOT bend or tarnish which is why ALL the rings I make include tungsten carbide.
WHY GO FOR COBALT-FREE RINGS MADE OF TUNGSTEN?
By combining tungsten powder together with carbon & nickel and allowing the powders to be placed in a high-pressure dye in order to form a blank which is fired at 3600 degrees Fahrenheit in order to bind the nickel and carbon with the tungsten. Once the tungsten rings have cooled, they can be cut, shaped & polished. As tungsten carbide is almost as hard as a diamond, the polishing/shaping process is very similiar to that of a diamond. From start to end, your tungsten carbide ring goes through about 35 steps.
